Isola Bella

MP isola bella century 1904 aug

Illustration by Maxfield Parrish, for Century Magazine, August 1904, of Isola Bella (‘beautiful island’) on Lago Maggiore in Italy, on the southern side of the Alps. The island is entirely occupied by a palace and garden begun in 1632 by Carlo III, of the House of Borromeo, for his wife, Isabella. With thanks to the wonderful Golden Age.
