Fan MailThe Oklahoma Cowboy Band, and their “educated dog,” Rex, open fan mail. They were the first western band on the radio and the public responded with telegrams, telephone calls and letters to radio stations asking for more “old-time cowboy music.” The woman in the band is Mommie Gray, of Stillwater, who sang sad songs. The band traveled for a decade to such cities as Chicago, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and Syracuse, where their custom-built Cadillacs added to their crowd appeal.
